How to Log Complaint if You Have Been Wrongly Charged for GST - Alankit Ltd

GST is a new tax system brought out by the Government of India. But still people are not aware of the GST rates and the shrewd shopkeepers and businessmen cheat them. Let’s see here how to make a complaint when you get cheated by the name of GST.


Goods and Services Tax or GST was introduced in India on 1st July 2017 by the Government of India. It replaces all the taxes that were in existence before. But the common people are still not aware of GST rates properly and are being cheated. Some of the most common types of GST frauds are


  • Collecting tax on services and goods that are free from GST

  • Collecting GST over and above the defined rate

  • Fraudsters posing as GST officers


There have been GST Alankit complaints being received as the shopkeepers and dealers charge additional GST rates even on daily need items such as mineral water, grains, milk, vegetables, eggs which are on the exemption list of GST. Some businessmen charge GST in addition to the VAT tax on their service bills. Early part of this month, the GST Council reduced the GST rate on restaurants to uniformly on 5% from 12% which was charged earlier. However, many restaurants continue to charge 12% only from their diners. Now the government is taking severe measures against these FMCG companies who do not pass on the benefit of the lower taxation to their customers.


In case, you have been a victim of the above instances, then instead of keeping mum you and suffering in silence, you can take some simple steps to complain against these people.


Step 1: Log on to the official website of CBEC Mitra Helpdesk and the link is given below:


You will find the helpdesk on the right bottom corner of the page and select the “Raise Web Ticket”. Then in the next window select the “Report Tax Fraud/Avoidance” and fill the required details into it. You will get the report box where you have to enter your complaint and of course you have to provide details like name and address of the shop/restaurant/organization that cheated you.


On receiving this complaint, a representative will contact the restaurant to check the details and will revert to your with redressal or further steps to be taken.

Though you need not attach the bills with it, but it is ideal to keep it ready.


Step 3: Yet another way is to tweet your complaints on the Official Twitter of GST (askGST_Goi) handled by Finance Ministry (@FinMinIndia).
